French President Nicolas Sarkozy was a child model who advertised washing powder to raise cash for his impoverished mother.
As a 12-year-old schoolboy in
Publicity shots from 1967 show the young Sarkozy in a blue T-shirt and a Boris Johnson-style blonde bob of hair.
He is grasping a replica jet plane – the kind which Bonux used to give away as a gift for children in their packets of powder.
Despite the unusual setting and hair colour - which is said to have been tinted for the picture – the famous Sarkozy features are unmistakable as he stares out towards the camera.
The job was given to the future head of state by his father Pal Sarkozy, who by 1967 had divorced his mother, Andree.
President Sarkozy has often said that his father leaving home caused huge financial difficulty for his mother and his two brothers, meaning they struggled to make ends meet.
Pal was an advertising copywriter on the Bonux brand at the time, and the company paid the equivalent of around £30 a day to their child models.
The photo of Sarkozy went unnoticed for more than 40 years, and it was only in November 2009 that former employees of Bonux confirmed it was indeed an image of the president.
